Pradžia

Penktadienis, liepos 22 d.

Ką šiuo metu skaitau
Kill the Documentary – A Letter to Filmmakers, Students, and Scholars“ – ši Jill Godmilow knyga kalba apie dokumentinių filmų beprasmiškumą bei kokią įtaką pasaulio ir žmogaus vietos jame supratimui daro filmai.

What I currently read
“Kill the Documentary – A Letter to Filmmakers, Students, and Scholars.” This book by Jill Godmilow reflects on the usefulness of documentary films and how a film changes how its viewers think about the world and their potential role in it.

Highlights of the past two weeks
Personal: For the first time since the pandemic I was able to meet with the Wolf Children. The occasion was a joyful one. We met at the Wolf Children memorial just outside the town of Pagėgiai to celebrate the 30th anniversary since its inception. Since the Wolf Children as well as their principal benefactor, Baron Wolfgang von Stetten, are well into their 80ies (and beyond), the municipality of Pagėgiai has signed a formal agreement for the upkeep of this important historical site. Professional: I was able to visit a number of historic places in Lithuania Minor as well as Liepaja in Latvia and conduct interviews.

How is the writing going?
With the many events that I attended, there was a great number of people I met but less time at my desk. Looking forward to writing more about that in the weeks to come.

Little known fact about me
My favorite drink is Gin & Tonic. I started drinking it at the young age of thirteen when I was bartending in my uncle’s pub in England during summers.

My favorite occupation
Curling up with a good book. (Ha! No surprise there!).

Every Friday we publish the “week in review” by our writer-in-residence Sonya Winterberg. This way you can meet her virtually and learn more about her. Sonya is an award-winning journalist, writer and documentary filmmaker from Germany. In Lithuania she is best known for her book on the so-called Wolf Children of East Prussia (Mes – Vilko vaikai. Palikti Rytų Prūsijoje). The English translation of her book will be published globally later this year. If you see her in the library or around town, please say hi – she is always happy to chat and hear your stories.
